Jeroen van de Gruiter
What is your passion?
What fascinates me are beautiful connections between humans and their environment, this is a very open thing varying from nature to architecture to clothes for instance.
What is important for you?
How do you Label yourself?
Someone that aims at redefining or clarifying in places where people have been rendered blind or deaf by habit.
How do you relate to the field of well-being?
In my work I often start with a context in mind, this can be a gesture or something more specific but it always involves the human being and very often that human being acts in the interior space, so I am trying to improve the connection we have to that space.
What is well-being for you? How does it reflect in your work?
I think well-being reflects in my work through a certain sensitivity. I’m interested in how products have the ability to connect to their user, either physically or mentally. That means I like to focus on the appearance and with that come choices in terms of as material, form, texture, color, proportion, size and how that behaves in time.
Well-being is Human Centered. How to reach people and connect?
By observing and certainly also listening a lot, there is a lot of information (sometimes hidden) in what people say.
What do you do for the world & what is your input?
I’m trying to redefine our relation to the world around us through products. Why do we have certain products, where and in what way do we use them and how do they appear to us. I’m very much interested in the way a product can speak to its user.
How would your work influence the future?
This isn’t something that is in my mind too much, but I hope that the energy I put in to the things translates into an expansion of the time in which my products will be used.
How do you explain to your family what your doing?
I keep my outcomes quite understandable so there isn’t too much of a problem explaining them.
How do others benefit most from what you do?
I hope that others see beauty in the product, and that my intention becomes clear.
What kind of media are you working with? (skills & programs you use)
At the moment the programs I most frequently use are Rhinoceros and the adobe package.
