What is your passion?
What is important for you?
That my work adds something to society and that it reaches people.
How do you Label yourself?
I think I would belong to the Social Design discipline.
Describe your work in one sentence without using the word ‘design’.
I try to make ‘theoretical’ ideas tangible, I believe in the strength of communicating in experiences and images.
What is well-being for you? How does it reflect in your work?
Well-being for me is the wellbeing of people and how they relate to each other.
In my opinion the well-being aspect is often not taken into account in society. This is strange, because everything we do, create or organize involves people. I believe that the well-being aspect should manifest itself in how we deal with people and the experience we give them. Well-being should be more prominent in society, which is why I focus my work on the ‘Care’ part within healthcare, education or on a bigger scale.
How would your work influence the future?
I aim to humanize the way we deal with each other in the future.
How do you explain to your family what your doing?
I tell them I translate ideas or a feeling in a tangible form to make for example information more accessible for a larger group of people and that images and experiences often are stronger means to pass on information.
To whom do you feel connected and target your work?
People who benefit from the understanding of people around them, but who are not able to explain themselves.
How do others benefit most from what you do?
I try to show different options or scenarios to improve future situations and I aim to improve communication between people, for example between caregiver and caretaker.
What is your way of working regarding the research you do & the strategy you have to reach your audience?
When I have a new project I start to read literature on the topic, but soon after I start to talk a lot with people who relate to the topic. I interview people and talk with experts to find the essence of the project. I believe that you reach a lot more people when you are able to communicate the essence of the project. Kill your darlings. All fascinating and nice things you’ve found during the process can be used in future projects.
Communicating the essence simple and clear is what I pursue, but is at the same time one of the most difficult things to do.
How do you structure your life?
My life is very flexible. I live life with my projects. When there are a lot of projects at the same time, I have less spare time. When the workload is less, I take a weekend off on Saturdays and Sundays. I work a lot together with my boyfriend and we try not to talk about work after 11pm, at least until the last two weeks before a deadline.
What kind of media are you working with? (skills & programs you use)
My work can be analogue or digital and I often use film or books to support my 3d work.
What type of assignment do you feel comfortable with?
I feel comfortable with an assignment that I can approach as a process. During the design process the client and I can discover what the real design question is and how I can contribute the best way.
